UUC 2nd XV took to the pitch against Dungannon 4s in the Forster Cup who where one league above them away from home. And with 6 starting players missing it was a massive undertaking and they where defeated 25-10 today.
But today showed that there is massive potential outside of their strongest XV. And as such they look towards the season within todays team, they can take great pride in their performance today. They never took a backwards step and played until the last minute of the game.
With 2 novice backs, and a novice second row from America. The 2s are taking this as a blip in their quest for the league and now the Shield.
Novice Rugby Player and American Alex Huber played his first competitive match today, and claimed a man of the match performance. For his first full outing he raised everyone’s game through tackling and fantastic spirit!
Match Day Captain Samuel Hetherington also put in a heroic performance. But went off injured and Club 2s Captain Melvyn McMenemy who is carrying an injury, stepped up and took over from Samuel Hetherington creating a try for Andrew Rourke!
Next week should see a fully reinforced team, and the 2s are aiming to take a win. The belief that was present in today’s team has set a higher standard for those returning from injury.
So competition and standards are now set.
Game On!
