On Thursday night November 24th at 7pm Ulster University Jordanstown was the venue for the Student Sport Ireland Men’s Rugby Division 3 final as Ulster University Coleraine take on Athlone IT ‘B’. Ulster University Coleraine topped Division 3A, a group that contained IT Sligo, Letterkenny IT and Ulster University Jordanstown before defeating Dundalk IT in the semi-final last week on a 14-10 score line. Athlone IT ‘B’ recovered from an opening round loss to Galway Mayo IT in Division 3D to top the group after wins over Maynooth University and NUI Galway. In the semi-final last Wednesday, the midlands college defeated University of Limerick ‘B’ on a 24-5 score line.
In what was a bruising and physical game, unfortunately for Captain David Gilkinson and his men they lost 29 -17 to Athlone.
We would like to thank everyone who came to support the guys at Jordanstown on a very cold and frosty night.
It has been a great achievement for the first year students who put in a tremendous effort to reach the final.
From the rest of UUC Rugby members and the Exiles well done on a fantastic effort guys.
